This wheel-thrown, stoneware teapot with a carved faceted surface is elegantly tall. Glazed red and fired to a high temperature, it was then sandblasted to give the surface texture. Jim Connell a professor of ceramics at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Measures 10" x 8" x 13"




Jim Connell is the Professor of Ceramics at Winthrop in Rock Hill, MO. Connell received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA the University of Illinois-Urbana in 1984. Connell work is strongly influenced by Eastern ceramics. His beautiful matte surfaces are accomplished by covering each piece in a high gloss glaze which he later sandblasts. Connell has been juried into 16 of the Strictly Functional Pottery Nationals in the last 17 years and received the NCECA International Residency Award to China in 2004. He has appeared in 47 publications to date and his work is in the collections of many Museums.
